We’ll begin by saying we love both products and use them about 50% / 50% in our office. So what is the difference between Botox and Dysport?
Both Dysport and Botox do the same thing, which is to relax the muscles of facial expression, thereby smoothing the skin.
Both are forms of the active purified protein botulinum toxin, but they are manufactured by two different companies. We like to say, it’s like comparing Motrin to Advil – both are ibuprofen, but made by two different companies.
Dysport is said to kick in faster, but we think the results last about the same amount of time with both products (about 3-6 months).
In our hands, it seems that Dysport is a tiny bit stronger than Botox, so we like to use it on strong, hearty muscles like the jaw muscles.
Some patients prefer one over the other. It’s a good idea to try both (with the same injector) so that you can compare apples to apples and decide which one you like best.
